Look up there! It’s a bird, it’s a plane…no, it’s a ship?!

Yes, that’s right, it’s a ship [a self-propelled DP2 jack-up, heavy lift ship to be precise].  For the uninitiated, it could look like the Empire’s AT-AT landing craft on the ice planet of Hoth from Star Wars (I know, super nerd).

However, what you’re looking at here is Keppel Corp’s innovative concept platform to service a variety of offshore activities, particularly the offshore wind market.

With a crane capacity of 1,200mt, DP2 rating (Dynamic Positioning with redundancy), and jacking system; this baby can not only drive herself to the playground, but post up (literally) in shallow or ultra-deep waters and go to work.

The Seafox 5 [delivered 18 August 2012] is capable of setting heavy offshore wind farm foundations / turbines, as well as providing various oil well / platform services in the deep blue.

gCaptain salutes those involved in helping pave the way of capital & intellectual investments to make the blue rock, well, more green.
